I realize it wouldn’t have helped in either of the situations I have found myself in recently, but the idea is that I have the option to get a permit and once I have one I can (if I choose to, or not to) carry a firearm on my person. I’ve heard all the arguments both ways and I appreciate everyone’s input (thank you all sincerely). But, it is my privilege as a US citizen to carry a weapon and I may occasionally be exercising that privilege.
